Adopted AFU received military transport aircraft An 70 powered by the D-27 propfan engines
On January 19, 2015 Defense Minister of Ukraine, Colonel-General Stepan Poltorak signed an order for passing into service to the Armed Forces of Ukraine the AN-70 military transport STOL aircraft powered by the D-27 propfan engines rated at 14,000 ehp ea, developed by Ivchenko Progress.
As of today, D-27 is the only working propfan engine without external cowling. According to an acoustic analysis performed it was established that the AN-70 aircraft powered by D-27 engines meets the ICAO and AP-36 standards on the environmental noise and the noise in the cockpit. The level of emissions is well below the ICAO standards. The D-27 is an engine of the 5th generation.
The AN -70 features a unique ability for the aircrafts of its type to take off and land on short unequipped runways.
